On average, children who have presented to hospital emergency clinics
with minor injuries miss one full day of school unnecessarily. Barnes
and colleagues, authors of a case-control study of 422 injured children
aged 4-16 (p 1034), believe that the injuries, of which more than half
were bruises and sprains, should not have prevented school attendance.
They say that health professionals should emphasise the importance of
children attending school after minor injuries.
