Plastic surgery moves on

Microsurgical techniques make it possible to replant severed body parts, ranging from whole limbs to finger tips, by anatomising divided blood vessels along with nerves and other injured structures. This week's clinical review on plastic surgery (p 319) by Johnson and Whitworth describes these and other advances in surgical techniques, as well as technical and biological advances and changes in the organisation of plastic surgery as it becomes integrated with other specialties.
