Platelet responsiveness to aspirin in patients with hyperlipidaemia is
reduced. Friend and colleagues (p 82) measured cholesterol concentrations and platelet aggregation in 56 consecutive patients who
were receiving daily aspirin. Poor platelet responsiveness to aspirin
occurred in over two thirds of patients with hyperlipidaemia. This
group of patients may need higher doses of aspirin, alternative antiplatelet agents, or lower target concentrations for total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol.
