Top 10 tips for a computerised NHS

The marriage between information technology and the NHS has been fraught with difficulties. Richard Granger, newly appointed director general of NHS Information Technology, probably needs all the help he can get. He gets some handy advice from Majeed (p 202), a doctor who knows the pain of a crashing computer. Majeed gives a list of IT changes that he feels would make the running of his general practice more efficient. Tips include sending letters and records electronically, providing IT training for all members of healthcare teams, and improving the speed and reliability of NHSnet. De Lusignan (p 205) and Teasdale (p 206) comment on his suggestions.
